A walk in the Trident area shows us the places that in past centuries were the undisputed destinations of the Grand Tour, the educational journey that attracted young scions of wealthy families, poets and intellectuals to Rome from northern Europe who chose Italy as a destination for study and training.
This district takes its name from a white weapon consisting of a spear with three prongs because from Piazza del Popolo, just like a trident, the district branches off into three streets: Via di Ripetta, Via del Babuino and Via del Corso. Formerly occupied by urban gardens and vineyards and by the port area of Ripetta, the Trident took shape between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries as a result of the major urban interventions carried out to connect the Porta del Popolo with the major basilicas. Thus, among churches, monuments and cobbled streets, you can discover many small and great wonders of the capital.
